The Greenpower project is dedicated to promoting engineering and technology as careers to students. This is achieved through unique hands-on projects to design, build and race an electric car.
A carefully thought up specification is issued to secondary schools along with a 24 volt electric motor and a set of 4, 12 volt lead/acid batteries. Cars are designed and built within the schools with the help of teachers, co-opted outside engineers, parents and sponsoring companies. They then compete in a number of IMechE Greenpower run endurance and sprint events throughout the country, using well known motor racing circuits.
